DINGHY REGATTAS
Small-boat sailing has become a defining part of the Club de Pesca y Vela’s identity. Over the past four years, the Club has established itself as a leader in dinghy racing along Colombia’s Caribbean coast, regularly hosting events that attract national and international competitors across multiple classes.
Our regattas center on three World Sailing-recognized classes: Optimist, Sunfish, and ILCA (Laser). Each class reflects a different stage in sailor development, from young beginners to experienced youth and adult racers. Most of our dinghy events are open to independent sailors, sailing schools, and affiliated clubs throughout the country.
The Club’s annual calendar includes:
-
Vientos del Caribe Regatta Series – A monthly series held January through November that consistently draws over 25 boats per event.
-
Cartagena Sailing Week – Hosted every April, CSW is Colombia’s flagship multi-class regatta, combining multiple days of sailing clinics with championship-level racing. It attracts sailors from several countries and plays a key role in connecting Colombia’s Caribbean sailing scene to the broader international community.
-
Sunfish National Championship – The Club hosted Colombia’s 2025 Sunfish Nationals, a high-level national event that draws the country’s top sailors in the Sunfish class.
-
Optimist Summer Camps – Our weeklong camps combine training and racing in a fun, structured environment for sailors ages 8–15. More than 60 sailors participated in the 2025 series.
Club de Pesca y Vela’s dinghy program is recognized for its professionalism and growing reach. Race operations are conducted with certified officials, and courses are set in the protected waters of Cartagena Bay - an ideal venue for youth development and fair racing.
Through these regattas, the Club is not only helping sailors hone their skills but also fostering a regional racing culture that links Colombia’s northern coast to the global sailing community.
